Erie's
History
Erie Family Health Center was founded
in 1957 as a volunteer project of Erie Neighborhood House and physicians
from Northwestern Memorial Hospital in order to serve the elderly
residents of West Town. Over the years, with changes in the community
and an increasingly younger population, Erie Family Health Center
evolved into a full-service community health center. In 1970, Erie
was formally incorporated and in 1983, Erie was designated a Federally
Qualified Health Center (FQHC) after receiving its first federal
grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Bureau
of Primary Health Care.
