Erie in the News

ERIE FAMILY HEALTH CENTER TO HONOR LOCAL HEALTH CARE CHAMPIONS

CHICAGO – April 24, 2013 – Erie Family Health Center, a provider of high quality health services to underserved communities, will honor health care champions and innovators at its Annual Luncheon at the Ritz Carlton Chicago, 160 E. Pearson, on May 16, 2013. The event recognizes leaders and visionaries in the health care field who have made a difference in the lives of Erie patients and the broader community. As health care reform is implemented, it also highlights the importance of expanding health services to meet the growing need for affordable care.

Linda Rae Murray, M.D., M.P.H., Chief Medical Officer for the Cook County Department of Public Health and past president of the American Public Health Association, will be the event’s keynote speaker. Dr. Murray has spent her career serving the medically underserved and has been a voice for social justice and health care as a basic human right for more than 40 years.

Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and Skokie Mayor George Van Dusen will receive the Health Innovator Award for their work to bring affordable health care services to the near north suburbs. With mayoral leadership and broad community support, Erie Evanston/Skokie Health Center opened in October 2012 and offers high-quality health care for thousands of Evanston and Skokie residents who previously lacked access to affordable care.

John Sachs, D.D.S., will receive the Golden Toothbrush Award for his life-long commitment to oral health care as a provider and advocate for access to these services for all. As an oral surgeon, Dr. Sachs spent decades providing high-quality care to his patients. He is a long-time advisor and supporter of Erie’s oral health program, helping Erie to serve more dental patients in 2012 than ever before.

The Polk Bros. Foundation will be honored with the Health Program Champion Award for its long-standing support of Erie’s school-based health programs. The Polk Bros. Foundation, among the earliest and most committed donors to Erie’s school-based health centers, provided funding and vision that helped Erie build a model of comprehensive care at these sites that includes not only medical care but also behavioral health and health education. Today, Erie is one of the largest school-based health providers in the City of Chicago.

UnitedHealthcare is Lead Sponsor of the Annual Luncheon. Other sponsors for the event include AON, Award Ceremony Sponsor, and Leal Associates, Inc., Benefactor Sponsor. All luncheon proceeds will benefit the 43,000 patients served at Erie Family Health Center’s 13 locations. These centers provide comprehensive primary care services, behavioral health counseling, dental care, case management, health education and eye care, regardless of ability to pay.

Erie Family Health Center Promotes Iliana Mora and Luz Jimenez

Friday, March 15th, 2013

Erie in the News

ERIE FAMILY HEALTH CENTER PROMOTES ILIANA MORA TO CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER; LUZ JIMENEZ TO SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF CLINICAL OPERATIONS

CHICAGO – March 13, 2013 – Erie Family Health Center, a provider of high quality health services to underserved communities, has promoted Iliana A. Mora to Chief Operating Officer, a new position. In addition, Luz Jimenez has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations.

In her new role, Mora will provide leadership for the full range of operating activities at Erie Family Health Center. Specifically, she will oversee and ensure integration of clinical operations, programs, financial management, marketing and fundraising.

Mora joined Erie Family Health Center in 2002 and has served as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Operations since 2008. Under Mora’s direction, Erie has launched oral health services, optometry care, expanded school-based health centers, opened Erie’s first suburban location in Evanston and is planning to open a community health center in Waukegan. Mora also has focused on strengthening Erie’s brand among Erie patients and financial supporters, launching employee management programs to invest in Erie staff, and developing the organizational infrastructure needed for Erie’s future growth plan.

“Iliana has been instrumental in leading Erie’s organizational priorities and devising and executing our growth plans,” said Dr. Lee Francis, Erie’s President and CEO. “She is well prepared for this exciting new role, and I know she will continue to make enormous contributions to our organization.”

Mora received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international affairs with an economics concentration from The George Washington University, where she graduated magna cum laude, and a Master of Urban Planning and Policy degree from the University of Illinois.

New Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations

Jimenez, a member of the Executive Leadership Team, joined Erie Family Health Center in 2001 and has served as the Vice President of Clinical Operations since 2007. Jimenez’s promotion to Senior Vice President recognizes her increased management responsibilities as Erie grows in size and geographic reach.

Under Jimenez’s direction, Erie launched its electronic health record system, initiated pediatric and adult urgent care services, strengthened its referral process, maintained a patient satisfaction rate that exceeds 90 percent and implemented emergency management procedures. She is currently implementing Erie’s “patient portal” which will enable patients to access their own health records and improve patient and provider communication. She also is working to reduce wait time across all Erie sites by more than 25 percent and help Erie achieve the rigorous national standards to qualify as a “patient-centered medical home.”

“Luz has been instrumental in improving patient access to care and assuring that patient medical visits are as efficient and comprehensive as possible,” said Francis. “Her leadership will help strengthen Erie as we grow to meet community needs.”

Jimenez received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from North Park University, Chicago, and completed a fellowship as a community health center executive through the University of Kansas.

Governor Quinn and Secretary Sebelius visit Erie Humboldt

Saturday, February 16th, 2013

Erie Family Health Center welcomes Illinois Governor Patrick Quinn and US Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius

On Wednesday, February 13, Erie Family Health Center was proud to welcome Illinois Governor Patrick Quinn and US Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to our Humboldt Park location for an important announcement about an Illinois state-federal health insurance marketplace partnership. While at Erie, the Governor and Secretary toured our facility and celebrated Erie’s innovative approach to providing quality, comprehensive, and affordable care to Chicago’s Humboldt Park community.

Erie’s Northwestern McGaw Family Practice Medical Residency program was highlighted as a critical reform, funded by the Affordable Care Act, that has been successful in ensuring that primary care physicians will be trained to provide care to underserved communities as health care reform implementation continues. Governor Quinn, Secretary Sebelius, and Erie committed to a long-term partnership to ensure that, as Illinois implements Medicaid expansion and the Health Insurance Marketplace, the communities Erie serves will be able to experience the benefits of these essential reforms.

This visit from our special guests was a great success thanks to the hard work and planning of many Erie staff members. This was a true team effort, and appreciation is due to all for sharing Erie’s spirit and commitment with Governor Quinn and Secretary Sebelius.
